Bad Days Brewing Company
Bad Days Brewing Company is a Vermont-based craft beer company that specializes in fun, flavored IPAs from locally-sourced ingredients. Bad Days has been brewing for ten years strong and is still growing and innovating every day. Their founder likes to remind folks that it’s never a bad day when you’re brewin’. Bad Days features four main flavors, the classic Old Gold, Sour Power, Double Trouble, and Short n’ Stout.
My Roles:
I am the sole researcher, idea maker, graphic designer, illustrator, copywriter, editor, as well as creator of a full prototype for the design.
Programs used: Illustrator, InDesign
Details:
The Bad Days Brewing Company project consisted of creating a more minimal and modern logo, label concept, and execution of a “tall boy” style craft beer can that reflects the brand of the company. Market research on beer and brewery-style design and branding was done to ensure the design would stand out in the growing creativity of craft breweries as well as stay true to the mission and style of the company. The project went through weekly reviews to ensure quality and communicate the proper and desired vision of Bad Days.
Branding and Package Design
Lessons Learned:
During the prototyping process, I had the opportunity to see the print quality and scaling of the labels. In the final production, I will adjust the accessibility of the Short n’ Stout flavor so that the bottom text has a greater contrast by using a lighter brown for the main palette of the label. I will also go through to make any last edits to the copy and text for any last errors, spacing, and coloring in places such as the QR code (featured with a white background rather than matching the cream label color).
I also used the Old Gold flavor as my original test prototype, experimenting with the logo shape in opposition to the other flavors. I will likely not utilize this more angled shape in preference for the larger option that fills the space more wholly.
Ultimately, the project was a success and in final edits will be ready to hit the shelves in mass production at Bad Days Brewing Company and local storefronts.
